Dom O'Byrne

A small blessing or two (…big opps?)

I love the golf industry. It would have been kinder to me and hundreds of other industry supporters in recent years, had the hard winds of recession not blown so harshly on all of us.

In my more miserable moments, music’s been a great comfort. Playing the blues has helped me sink ever deeper into it and really relish the slurry; playing pratt-face folk has lifted me… both just as welcome at different times. But it’s music that  offers a really interesting diversion. I have an upcoming project that – although a one-off – if I don’t cock it up will be a very welcome challenge. At best, it could open many new doors. I’ll keep you posted, y’all.

Meantime, long-standing compadre Nick Copland has me out on a photo assignment this Thursday at Leeds market, in support of one of his projects www.thesourceleeds.co.uk . I’m really looking forward to this – not dissimilar to shooting European Tour golf events, but it’s a chance to do much kore stuff in the raw (RAW… geddit?) in a scenario more akin to straightforward reportage.

A great attraction for support too… The Kirkgate Market originally established circa 1876 and reconstructed after fire damage in 1904 is now selling top quality produce. The source Leeds stall is actually adjacent to one of the original Marks & Spencer stalls. How’s that for outdoing the neighbours.

Bloody golf can wait while I burnish some of my other crafts. And on that subject, anybody who wants to learn how to play Man of the World to make Peter Green cry, I’m polishing that too –
